Day 1: Arrival in Mombasa – Visit Mida Creek & Arabuko Sokoke Forest

You’ll be met at your hotel or Moi International Airport in Mombasa and transferred to Watamu. Begin birding immediately with an afternoon tour of Mida Creek, known for mangrove and shorebird species such as Crab Plovers, Greater Sandplovers, and Terek Sandpipers.

In the late afternoon, enter the Arabuko Sokoke Forest, home to endemic species like Sokoke Scops Owl, East Coast Akalat, and Clarke’s Weaver.

Day 2: Sabaki River Delta – Tsavo East National Park

After early morning birding along the Sabaki River Delta, spotting Lesser Crested Terns, Madagascar Pratincoles, and a variety of herons, proceed inland to Tsavo East National Park.

Birding en route and within the park includes species like Somali Ostrich, Golden Pipit, African Hawk-Eagle, and Black-headed Lapwing.

Day 3: Full-Day Birding in Tsavo East

Enjoy a full-day birding safari in Tsavo East, Kenya’s largest park. Target species include the Golden-breasted Starling, Secretary Bird, Vulturine Guineafowl, and Buff-crested Bustard. Raptors are abundant, and the park is home to over 500 recorded bird species.

Optional visit to the Lugard Falls area or Galana River for aquatic and riparian species.

Day 4: Tsavo East – Taita Hills Forest Reserve

After breakfast, drive to Taita Hills, one of Kenya’s key bird areas. This is the best location to spot endemic species like the Taita Apalis, Taita White-eye, and Taita Thrush – some of the world’s most range-restricted birds.

Day 5: Taita Hills – Tsavo West National Park

Morning birding in Taita, then transfer to Tsavo West National Park. Focus on habitats around Mzima Springs, Chyulu Hills, and Shetani Lava Flow.

Look for Hartlaub’s Bustard, African Pygmy Falcon, Fischer’s Starling, and many raptors. Water-associated birds are often found around Mzima Springs and along the Tsavo River.

Day 6: Tsavo West – Lake Naivasha (via Nairobi)

Drive toward Nairobi with a short stopover for lunch, then continue to Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley. Late afternoon birding around the lake, targeting species such as African Fish Eagle, Great White Pelican, Giant Kingfisher, and Malachite Kingfisher.

Day 7: Lake Naivasha – Lake Nakuru National Park

Morning bird walk in Naivasha before departing for Lake Nakuru National Park, a designated Ramsar site. Famous for flamingos, pelicans, and both black and white rhinos, this park is rich in both aquatic and woodland bird species.

Expect sightings of the African Spoonbill, Great White Pelican, Narina Trogon, and Verreaux’s Eagle.

Day 8: Lake Nakuru – Aberdare National Park

After early morning birding in Nakuru, drive to Aberdare National Park, known for high-altitude forest and moorland species.

Birds to watch for include the Jackson’s Francolin, Golden-winged Sunbird, Moorland Chat, and Mountain Buzzard. In the evening, view wildlife and nocturnal birds from the lodge’s viewing decks.
